We are experiencing unprecedented levels of anxiety and depression in Australian youth. Educational organizations are networks of relationships, with a high capacity for positive generativity, providing an optimal environment for knowledge and skill building. Through developing awareness, knowledge and understanding of wellbeing theory and application, young people can develop the skills, strategies, and confidence, to be authors of their own destiny, able not only to survive but thrive.
Partnerships between home and school are a core component in an abundant and positive culture, focused on improved wellbeing and learning outcomes. Education is much more than an academic curriculum, and wellbeing is not separate to performance. Current research affirms the benefits of wellbeing in the pursuit of academic achievement. Learning about mindset and emotions, how to care for self and others through respectful relationships, cope with challenge, and tap into a strong sense of purpose enables young people to grow, and feel a sense of belonging. These skills and strategies become every day practice through modelling, learning, applying what they have learnt and positively contributing to their community and beyond.
